Dissertation Death March, Day -1

One more day. I need to call Walt tomorrow and find out the exact time I need to deliver a document. Today I finished the conclusion, which I am happy with, and the ribosome background section. Only got partway through the software background section so far. Tomorrow I must finish that, whip out the RNA background section and finish up the Translocation part of the eln001 app which I have put off. Then must fill in small missing pieces and start on the formatting. A lot to do and not much time left.

Dissertation Death March, Day -2

Started in on Translocation again this morning, but I stopped after a bit because I was worried about going in too deep and spending too much time on it. I found myself thinking instead about what to say in the conclusion. I spent the rest of the day on that and it's almost done. Finished the first part, which was just a summary of accomplishments in the research. And the last part, in which I start raving about how incredible and profound the ribosome is. I'm pretty satisfied with it. Now, I've just finished laying the groundwork for the middle part, in which I talk a little about Multiscale Modeling, which was going to be a background section unto itself, but I realized that it would be better in the 'blue sky summing up' part.

Tomorrow, really have to kick butt and get the rest of this stuff done. It may be grinding, but I believe that I have finished most of the critical stuff.

Dissertation Death March, Day -3

The end is nigh. Just finished up Peptide Transfer, which completes the most difficult part of the most important part of the paper. Still have to finish Translocation, but I won't be putting as much time into it for a number of reasons. First, it's the final phase of elongation, and when I was bashing my brains out in early January trying to just get the damn elongation sim FINISHED, by necessity I gave the translocation part shorter shrift and I will do likewise in the writeup. I can only hope that the more adequate coverage of the first two parts of elongation will make up for it in the eyes of my advisors. The other reason that I won't spend as much time on it is because I don't have that much time left to spend. I must set aside sufficient time to fill in the other missing pieces and write a ripping solid conclusion. And then of course, the mindless formatting drudgery. Don't know how much longer I can work tonight, might just head home and try to get an early start tomorrow.
